Dileep is the man for whom Manju Warrier abandoned a lucrative and successful film career. His successful films are Varna Koichagal, Joker, Tenkasi Patnam, and Dost. Dileep got noticed through the box office super hit 'Sallapam'. He was able to gain that luring lustre of a star with in a short period of time.

The man hates to be called a superstar (though he may be silently enjoying it). But when his image appears on the screen, it is fun time in the theatre. Dileep- the most successful actor of last year is on a joyride. Looking back he can smile as even after successful box office wins, he was not recognised. But Parakkum Thalika silenced all his detractors and a new trend in Malayalam cinema began. His demand as a successful hero continued through Ishtam, Mazhathullikkilukkam, Kuberan, Meesha Madhavan and his latest Kalyanaraman.

It was Meesha Madhavan and Kunjikoonan last year that took Dileep to the zenith of glory. Producers queued up in front of him for a date. It was the same situation Mohan Lal enjoyed during his hits such as Irupathaam Noottandu, Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam and Gandhinagar 2nd street.

Born in 1968 to Padmanabhan Pillai and Sarojam, Dileep's real name is Gopalakrishnan. He completed his schooling from Aluva Vidyadhi Raja and SNV Sadanam. His college days at Maharajas College Ernakulam was the breeding ground to nurture his mimicry talents. Later he worked in Cochin Kalabhavan, Harisri and Cochin Oscar.

Dilleep entered the tinsel world as the assistant director of Kamal in the film Vishu Lokam in 1991. In 1992 he did a small in the film Ennodistam Koodamo. It was Sallapam directed by Sunder Das that gave Dileep the much-needed break. Ee Puzhayum Kadannu, Kalyana Saugandhikam, Punjabi House, was some of his starters. The success of Joker cemented the need of Dileep in Malayalam cinema. To this date he has acted in more than 60 cinemas including his latest hit Kalayanaraman.

This versatile actor's strength is light - hearted comedies. This makes family audience love him. The biggest factor is that this actor gives minimum guarantee to his producers.

Dileep has a long way to go in the magic world of cinema. With proper selection of stories Dileep is sure ahead in the race for the super star post in the new generation of actors.

Watching movies has always been Dileep's favourite hobby. He never selects the movies to watch and is interested in all types and languages of films. As different movies have different moods all movies are good according to Dileep. However comedy and action movies are his favourites. However whether he watches the movie on television or in the theatre he never takes the trouble to study more of movie making. He has never participated in any film festival.

He enjoys watching the television too and says it is fun to keep surfing channels. However he complains of not having enough time for this pastime. He loves music too. "I do not know how to sing but I enjoy listening to music. Manju is a very good singer."
